  • Creativity as an Agent of Healing

Saving Cindy member, Barbara Tallberg, posted a nice piece on our Saving Cinderella social network recently, "When I give myself permission to be in a creative frame of mind, the terrors of fear, anger and self-disgust become flames for the soul to use as a means to create a 'thing of beauty' in any form one may use for self-expression. Sometimes I utilize the written word. Lately, I've been using my camera and have discovered that hours can pass by while I'm involved with the self-discovery of shapes and colors."

Barb has a good point. More and more of our members are posting videos relating to domestic violence. Still other survivors are putting their own stories on the web in video form and using You Tube as a vehicle for their presentations.

Getting out of an abusive relationship is one thing. Healing is quite another journey beyond leaving the abuse behind. Art can give you the wings to begin a healing journey. Why not take a few minutes now to view some of the videos posted on You Tube to capture the many faces of abuse in relationships.

Manual Strangulation as a form of Domestic Violence Physical Assault

Did you know that up to one of four women sustaining a domestic violence physical assault are strangled manually as a part of that assault? The next eZine will address this topic in greater depth. Meanwhile, if you have a question to ask about manual strangulation or a story to tell, please email DrT.

November has been a month of being on the road for speaking, writing, and attending events. My homes away from home this month included Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida. Flights were crowded but pleasant given the necessary process of filling every seat on the airplane before departure.

Kudos to the good folks at SAFE-T Crisis Center in Mt Pleasant, TX. On November 4th they presented a full-day training program addressing Healthcare's Response to Intimate Partner Violence.

This event afforded me the opportunity to fashion a new workshop based on information from our book, Respond to Intimate Partner Violence - 10 Action Steps You Can Take to Help Your Patients and Your Practice Now.

Workshop objectives were woven into the framework of a book in the making with the working title, Saving Cinderella: How to Help Women Trapped in Abusive Relationships.

This approach turned out to make for a fun workshop that demonstrated learning objectives through the power of story.
